One-of-a-Kind Details Create A New Wave of Custom Office Design and Construction

Situated within one of Chicago’s most historic buildings, The Franklin Building, sits the newly renovated office for The Trade Desk, a global digital media buying platform and now the main ad buyer for TikTok. Reed Construction began work on this project in early October of last year with construction spanning over the course of five months. Long before companies turned to virtual meetings due to COVID-19, the team on this project perfected the art of leveraging technology to collaborate from all over the globe. The Trade Desk worked with our Chicago team from their headquarters in Ventura, California as well as from New York, London and Singapore. They successfully coordinated around varying time zones and geographic regions to make this project a success.

Designed by HOK, the 27,000 square foot buildout featured finishes unlike any other office we’ve built. Myles Soverel, Senior Project Manager at Reed Construction said “This project was one of the most contemporary design-driven projects that I’ve been a part of. It featured sealed concrete walkways and an incredible social hub area with custom millwork elements.”

The social hub is truly the epicenter of this project’s unique features. It is equipped with specialty Australian water zip-taps, which produce instant hot, cold, and sparkling water. The surrounding millwork was custom built to outfit the appliances to provide a sleek appearance. Additionally, Reed sourced wood veneer beams that span the ceiling above the hub. The beams were hung with a Unistrut system to ensure proper coordination with the intertwined MEP system.

The main conference room generated enthusiasm and excitement from Myles Soverel, when asked about the unique details of the project. He relayed, “We installed a Bendeheim architectural glass system along the whole wall of the conference room. It is made up of small glass panes encased in aluminum frames. It brings a real high-end look to the space.”

He went on to say, “The level of detail that was provided by The Trade Desk, including Cresa and HOK, contributed to the success of this project. Their proactive and collaborative nature allowed our team to have the answers needed to ensure a seamless construction process.”

The Trade Desk angled their build-out to wow any client or guest that walks through their Chicago office. It is a showcase of their brand and message that customization is what best suits any company.
