What led you to a career in the construction industry?
My family was a big reason for my decision to pursue a career in construction finance. My Dad, both Grandfathers, Uncle, cousins and husband are all in construction and it was part of my vocabulary since I was young.
What do you love most about working in the construction industry?
I love that every day is different in the construction world. Rarely are you trying to solve the same problem twice; this brings a constant challenge to the position and I am always learning something new.
What are the advantages women bring to the jobsite?
Women definitely bring a different perspective to the job site. Women are great communicators and respond more efficiently to verbal and emotional aspects. Our response to verbal cues and unspoken words help create a well-rounded labor force.
How has the industry benefited from women in construction?
Women bring a strong togetherness to all teams. We value all relationships including strong connections with our trade partners, clients & our co-workers. Naturally, I want to motivate others to excel and encourage them to be their best.
What is your advice to women interested in a career in construction?
Go for it! Whether working on the jobsite or working in the office, it is a unique and fulfilling experience.
What Reed project are you most proud of and why?
We are currently completing a behavioral hospital for a repeat client. From a finance perspective, there were so many different billing processes, insurance & bonding requirements, that it was a great learning experience not only for the project accountant, but for me as well. This project introduced new difficulties for the finance team and brought new processes to the department that helped improve efficiency.
